EXPERIENCING . . . more
- Lord's Supper
“ For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: The Lord Jesus on the night he was betrayed, took bread, and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, ‘This is my body which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.’ In the same way, after supper He took the cup, saying, ‘This cup is the new covenant in my blood, do this, whenever you drink it in remembrance of me.’ For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes.” 1 Corinthians 11:23-26 At Calvary, we participate in the Lord’s Supper (Communion) on the second Sunday of every month. And since this is the Lord’s table we gather around it at his invitation. It is not for us to decide who participates. The Bible simply tells us it is for Christ followers - those who have believed and have chosen to follow Christ as their leader. If you are a Christ follower you welcome to reflect, remember and respond as we partake together.
- Baptism & Child Dedication
Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ...Acts 2:38
Baptism is a very important step in following Jesus. It is an outward sign of a personal decision to accept Jesus as your Lord and Saviour and a way to publicly tell others of your faith and commitment to Him. On top of that, it honours Jesus who asked all his followers to declare their love for Him in this way.
- Membership
“Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others”…Romans 12:4–5. Becoming a member at Calvary means that you are becoming a part of our spiritual family and joining us is one of the most important and exciting adventures you will ever take.
It also demonstrates a deliberate commitment to our church as together we agree to pursue God’s agenda here. Members are also given the privilege of voting on such things as who becomes an Elder and the budget.
- Recreational Activities
During the week there are several opportunities to get off the couch with a great group of men and women ages 16 years and up who enjoy staying active together! The schedule for the upcoming season is: Basketball on Monday (7:30-9:30pm) and Indoor Ball Hockey on Thursday (7:30-9:30pm). If you would like to add something else, really anything else like volleyball, a running group or even sky diving let us know! Hospitality
Some of our activities related to hospitality include having showers for new mothers of our church, bridal showers, receptions for funerals, and providing food for those who are ill or who cannot get their own meals. Visitation of our sick and elderly is also carried out on a regular basis. Contact: Carol Morris 416-292-0081 carol.morris@sympatico.ca or Sandra Molloy 416-698-3496 who is in charge of the meal ministry for more information. There are two ways that you can contribute to the meal ministry. Make casseroles, desserts, baked goods or purchase frozen entrees etc. that can be stored in our freezer for use as needed. Or…if you don’t cook; donate by cheque designated to The Casserole Ministry through the Sunday Offering.
