Tom Lambshead - Senior Pastor
Hi, I’m Tom and my primary role at Calvary Church as Senior Pastor is to “lead, feed and intercede” on behalf of our people. I have the joy of researching and implementing strategic directions so that our church remains relevant to the generation and community God has provided. I also provide the bulk of the preaching for our main worship service—a task in which I find great joy (though I could do without the pressure of the weekly preparation and public speaking L). I came to faith in Christ very early in life through the authentic lifestyle of loving Christian parents…and a host of extended family and friends who were Christians and lived it genuinely and relevantly.
I’ve been married to Karen, the love of my life, for 25+ years and we have three children (Caleb, Meredith & Jillian) who are in various stages of education from university to high school. Both Karen and I were born and raised in Southern Ontario, and other than a short period of time in Chicago, we are thankful to God that we’ve never had to venture too far from home. We are a family of pet-lovers…up to five at one time! Our latest loves are a German Shepherd, a “teacup” Chihuahua and a tabby cat. It’s an active home!
Professional & Educational Background: Most of my professional life has been spent in pastoral ministry though I spent several years as an entrepreneur developing, and then selling, a graphic design business. I also spent several years as an adjunct professor at a Bible college teaching visual communications.
Education:I have a Bachelor and Masters degree which are mainly in theological and pastoral studies from seminaries in Chicago and Toronto. I am currently in a doctoral program with a focus on leadership.
Favourite places: By far, one of my favourite places other than my home, is the land of Israel. I’ve toured or led tours to Israel three times. It is impossible to put into words the spiritual impact and biblical clarity it provides. You should go sometime!
Sports teams: I grew up a typical Canadian boy: hockey, hockey, hockey! I’ll watch any game but prefer to watch the original six (e-mail me if you don’t know what that means!).
Hobbies: When I’m not with my family or working you will often find me riding or accessorizing a Harley-Davidson motorcycle. I also own a vintage Honda CB750 which I have restored (which will likely need to be sold to clear space in the garage).
What’s on your iPod? I have remarkably eclectic tastes: a little jazz, some classical, several worship albums, and a lot of 70’s classics! I keep them all handy and use them as the mood dictates.

Gary Cockburn - Pastor of Community Engagement
My name is Gary and I’m an Associate Pastor here at Calvary. Among other things, my responsibilities include leading in the area of community engagement, helping people get connected to meaningful relationships serving in their areas of passion, and being part of the teaching team. My passion is to see the people of Calvary Church grow spiritually, emotionally, and intellectually and then step into positions of leadership that positively impact our community, city and the world in Jesus' name.
My wife, Amy and I have been married since July 12, 2003 and we have two children; Grace and Rose and a Wheaton Terrier named Seamus. I was born and raised in the Pape & Danforth neighbourhood and at Calvary. During my time in high school and university however I ran from God but on August 10, 1999 He welcomed me home. I spent the first 8 years following university employed full-time as a Physiotherapist and then made a transition into formal ministry initially with Youth Unlimited (Toronto Youth for Christ). This led me to accept this position at Calvary which I have held since April 2008. My wife Amy is trained as an Occupational Therapist and we have been involved in various ministries together since the day we first met.
Education: Queen's University Bachelor of Physical and Health Education and Bachelor of Arts - Psychology; University of Toronto Bachelor of Science - Physical Therapy; Toronto Baptist Seminary Masters of Religious Education.
Favorite Places: Of the places I've been, my favorites include Isle of Sky, Scotland and Maracas Beach, Trinidad. I also love Toronto's East-End!
Life Scripture: "I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man or woman remains in me and I in them, they will bear much fruit; apart from me they can do nothing." - Jesus (John 15:5)

Alan Butryn - Pastor of Family Life
Hi my name is Alan Butryn and I’m the Pastor of Family Life here at Calvary Church Toronto. I spent the majority of my youth growing up in the west end of Toronto. I love this city. It’s an amazing place to live. The focus and passion of my life and ministry is to help people grow in their love for and walk with Jesus.
I’ve been married to Kathy, my best friend and ministry partner for over 25 years. Together we have two grown daughters, a teenage son, and a new son-in-law! When I’m not serving at Calvary, I love to spend time with my family, train in Shotokan Karate, watch a good movie, and hang out at my local Starbucks for cup of coffee and some interesting conversation.
The Bible is the coolest book on the planet. It has awesome principles for living a purpose-filled life. Apart from John 3:16 my favourite verse is Galatians 2:20 which says, “I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” |

Dave Lombardo - Youth Director
Hi. My name is Dave Lombardo and I am the Youth Director at Calvary Church. My main responsibilities are leading meetings and events for Heirborn, Calvary’s Youth group. As a group we are passionate about God and loving His people. We demonstrate this by meeting regularly to study the Bible and by going out into the community to serve in any way we can. My responsibilities at Calvary are in partnership with Youth Unlimited (Toronto Youth for Christ) with whom I work as a Community Youth Outreach Worker and run Pape Youth Centre, a Friday night drop-in program for teens ages 12- 18. Working with teens is my passion, and I believe that befriending and spending time with these youth is a crucial step in even beginning to share God’s message with them.
I was born in raised in Scarborough and have lived at the same house my entire life. I have attended church my entire life, but it was at the age of 14 that I decided I didn’t want to go to church just because my parents brought me there week after week, but that I wanted to go because I was excited about God’s love for me. This decision resulted in my water baptism on February 11, 2001. I have been attending Calvary since 2004 after working with the church’s day camp for two years. Nearing the end of high school I wanted to go out on tour and make a living playing in a band, however this was changed when, thank the Lord, I was challenged to push myself academically and entertain the idea of post-secondary education. This led to a co-op placement in a grade 6 classroom, which led to my interest in working with youth, which after a few other stops led me to my current position at Calvary and with Youth Unlimited.
Education: I am currently enrolled in the Community Worker Program at George Brown College at the St. James Campus.
Favourite Places: The lower deck of my family’s cottage on Loon Lake in Gravenhurst, Ontario.
What's on your iPod: I currently have 2909 tracks on my iPod. My collection of music ranges from the pyrotechnically charged stages of rock bands, to the hands of a drummer in Africa, to mainstream guitar-driven radio, to the poor quality basement recordings of friends, to the twisted brass horns of the early 1940’s, to the flavourful licks of steel and nylon stringed acoustic guitars, to the ....
Books: I like those little books which when opened up reveal 10 rolls of Life Savers.
Sport Teams: I hardly watch team sports enough to choose a favourite team, so I’ll say Roger Federer.
Movies: “Jurassic Park”, the “Star Wars” Collection, and “The Sandlot”.
Hobbies: I enjoy Ping Pong, Mountain Biking, Tennis, eating Nachos and playing guitar. Sometimes all at once.
Dislikes: Television shows and movies that make viewers feel like they themselves have become some sort of certified detective or private investigator simply by watching.
Odd Facts: When I was 7 years old I was on the TVO children’s show “Polka Dot Shorts”, a spinoff of the show ‘Polka Dot Door”.
Life Scripture: Ecclesiastes 4: 7 - 12. Specifically verse 12. |
